Mimico Wins Their First Provincial Championship
Peterborough played host to the WMSL Championships on August 15 to 17, 2025. The ten teams Arthur Aces, Grand River Attack , Hamilton Bengals, Kingston Cannons, London Thrashers, Mimico Mountaineers, Mississauga Badgers, Niagara Turtle Islanders, Peterborough Lakers and Whitby Rush came together to determine the 2025 Ontario Champion.
The WMSL also took the opportunity on Friday evening to have a banquet provided and hosted by the Peterborough Lakers where each team announced their Most Valuable Players and the league announced their 2025 All – Star team.
The round robin game results established that Arthur, Peterborough, Mimico and Whitby would continue to play for the Ontario Championship and that Grand River, Hamilton, Niagara and Kingston would compete for the B Championship.
In medal round actions on Sunday with Kingston shut out Hamilton and Grand River dispatched Niagara to reach the “B” final. On the Ontario Championship side hometown favourite Peterborough sent Arthur home early and clinch their first visit to the finals. The other semi final pitted Whitby and Mimico and Mimico finally broke through and defeated Whitby to send them to the championship game.
The “B” final saw some great action but in the end the Grand River attack were too much for the Kingston Cannons and they took home the B championship.
The final game for the Ontario Championship pitted Mimico Mountaineers vs hometown team Peterborough Lakers. The game was a back and forth action, but Mimico took the lead late in the 3rd to clinch the title. Congratulations Mimico on your first WMSL Championship.
